FAQ
-
CVEC Fiber, LLC. is the broadband subsidiary of Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative. We are offering fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network – the gold standard of communications transmission – over its existing electric distribution infrastructure that will take fiber directly into homes and businesses and deliver reliable, high-speed internet services.
-
Broadband commonly refers to high-speed internet access that is always on and faster than traditional dial-up access. Broadband fiber-optic networks can deliver voice, data, video, and email services over the internet.
-
Fiber-optic systems are made up of tiny strands of glass that carry data using light waves, resulting in much faster internet speeds and better reliability than traditional copper lines. Most internet providers use fiber in their systems but use copper lines for the final connections to the home, resulting in slower speeds. Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative and fellow cooperatives believe FTTH is the best, most sustainable communications choice. With our FTTH service, we offer “symmetrical” speeds, meaning you’ll enjoy the same high speeds whether uploading or downloading.
-
A fiber-optic network sends and receives data at the speed of light. In addition to super-fast transmission speeds, a fiber-optic network can carry an extremely high amount of data. Fiber is also more reliable than other networks because it’s less susceptible to interference and damage from lightning and other acts of nature.

CVEC Fiber will announce openings via Facebook, email, and direct mail piece when fiber service is ready in your area.
-
Yes. Potential subscribers are encouraged to subscribe to our email list to be notified when services are available in your area.
-
You can use your own device, however, we highly recommend taking our provided equipment as we are able to better troubleshoot, analyze, and maintain your home network with our end-to-end networking solutions. There is no monthly charge for using our equipment - but you may opt to purchase our equipment protection plan which covers any equipment failure and replacement at a low monthly rate!
Installation & Construction
-
This 6-year FTTH buildout, encompassing 4100 miles of fiber, will ultimately reach 100 percent of Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative members. The buildout will provide access to broadband benefits for 24,000+ rural Oklahoma homes and businesses.
-
We use Calix equipment as a complete end-to-end solution, meaning the network that goes from your home back to our core is made up of Calix's high-performance systems and managed with their state-of-the-art software. We install GigaSpire routers in homes, these are top-of-the-line devices with dual-band Wi-Fi 6, 4 gigabit ethernet ports, and incredible security features including a robust firewall and end-user management through a dedicated application you can run on any phone - our CVEC Fiber App!
-
Once you sign up for service, fiber installation is relatively simple and non-invasive. We pull fiber from our main lines and follow power lines to attach the fiber to your home or business, and the fiber will be hung or buried underground. Next, we secure the fiber line to a box near your electric meter where the home/business inside wiring connects with the outside wiring. Finally, the fiber is connected to a fiber jack inside your home or office, where it’s plugged into the ONT we provide.
In essence, the construction crews pulling and hanging the fiber and taking it to your house’s outside wiring is preparing the network to go live once construction in the area is complete. One of our member relations representatives will contact you to schedule an appointment for an in-home installer to finalize your connection and test the services from your equipment. Once the installation is complete and tested, your service should be ready to go.
Internet

Unlike a typical wireless range extender, a mesh extender works by seamlessly backhauling your data from the closest access point in the home to the router. If you've got a router on one end of your home, and a mesh extender on the other, while you move from one room to the next your device will stay connected by communicating through whichever device is closer, without having to switch networks. Mesh devices do not broadcast their own network, they are adaptive routers that communicate with your router to create one seamless wireless experience across your home, and they are scalable up to 4 mesh units.
-
Typically, our standard Router we install can cover up to ~1500 sqft, depending on interference. Interference can come in the form of metal, walls, appliances, and basically anything that can intercept or bounce radio waves. If your home is larger than 1500 sqft we highly recommend having our install technicians bring a Mesh Wi-Fi Extender when we set up your home network.
-
Your internet could appear to be running slow for a number of reasons, including bad wireless signal from your router to your devices, bad light to your modem, or you may just need to reboot your router. Delivering high-speed data to thousands of homes and devices is difficult, and sometimes a small failure between point A and point B can be the difference between blazing fast speeds and webpages opening at a snail's pace. The best course of action is as follows: Run a speed test on the affected devices, then run a speed test using our CVEC Fiber app. If there appears to be a discrepancy between the two speed tests, try to ensure there is no wireless interference between the Router and the device you're connecting with. If that doesn't help, you may want to try "prioritizing" the traffic to your device, which can also be done in our CVEC Fiber app. Simply open the app, tap "Things" and select the desired device. Once in the device's options, tap "Network Prioritization" and turn it on. If that doesn't help, then try rebooting the router - and if you see no change in speeds please reach out to our Member Support Representatives for more advanced troubleshooting.
-
There are no data caps or bandwidth throttling (intentional slowing or speeding of internet service) with this service.
*Subject to fair and appropriate usage standards to be disclosed with terms of service.

-
That depends! Older devices shouldn't have any issues connecting to our network, however, speeds may vary based on the age and performance of the device. For instance, an iPhone 13 Pro Max can almost receive gigabit speeds over a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection, whereas an iPhone 4 would cap out at around ~300mbps under the most ideal conditions.
Phone
-
No, you must bring your own device. The only equipment supplied by CVEC Fiber is our modem, router, and any applicable mesh extenders.
-
Absolutely, we provide free number porting from your current carrier to our service. Please note it may take up to 3 weeks to successfully port the number over from your existing service to our platform.
-
We require a copy of the most recent bill from your current carrier emailed to phone@cvecfiber.com to begin the porting process.
-
Yes, however, we will have to complete a full fiber install to provide the service so the $100 install fee will apply.
CVEC Fiber App
-
Our CVEC Fiber Application is an awesome tool for managing your home network. Some key features are Unique device profiles, network prioritization, device controls, people profiles, and location profiles. With people profiles, you're able to see and control data usage, time limits, set restrictions, pause connections, and assign devices to individuals in your home. Locations work similarly, allowing you to set devices into groups based on where the device is located in your home. You're also able to set and change your Wi-Fi name and password, as well as create secondary or guest networks to add additional layers of security to your home network.
-
On the CVEC Fiber App, you can check the security shortcut under "My Network" to see how many viruses, intrusions, and threats have been blocked by your router over the last week or month, so you know you're browsing safely.
-
With the CVEC Fiber App, you can easily manage your children's devices by assigning them to their own profiles. Once the devices are assigned you can start and stop internet access to those devices at any time from the app.
-
On the CVEC Fiber App under devices, simply select the device you want to prioritize and tap "Network Priority". A menu will come up allowing you to prioritize any device on your network, either permanently or for a set amount of time. This is a great tool to battle bandwidth hogs when you're trying to stream your favorite TV show or movie, or when playing multiplayer games online.
